Why are workshops so important? - Mii-Estilo

Why are workshops so important?

There is an old quote from Sir Francis Bacon that I absolutely love and try to follow in a lot of areas of my life (not only professional, but for self growing as well) and if I need to give someone an advice, it will always be the one that this quote brings: scientia potentia est - or, translated as KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

There are two things that are certain in life: it will end someday, and that we will never know or learn enough - perfection doesn’t exist.
Since we all know that our days are counted, why not take some moments to improve ourselves? Why not start now instead of postponing it? Grab chances and opportunities - you will only profit from this once you make this little switch.

So, my-lovely-photographer-customer, it doesn’t matter for how long you are shooting, I am sure that you always have something new to learn! And this is  possibly why workshops are the best choice for learning!

Let me talk a bit about my own experience… Most of you know me as Ingrid, the owner and designer of Mii-Estilo, but I too started a path as a photographer. In 2017 I felt the urge of learning this new art to photograph my own products in order to test them - and as you can imagine, I did fall in love with this new activity! ❤️ I’ve been photographing for 6 years now, but it seems like only yesterday - I started photographing outdoors, since I didn’t have a studio in hand at that moment.

If you are a little bit familiarised with the weather in The Netherlands, you will know how challenging this was. 😌

Photographing outdoors was fun and I could do it for a while… until the winter came. ❄️ Having yourself and your models always freezing and wet wasn't very funny anymore, so I felt the urge of finding a space indoors to continue with my new passion.

By moving inside, I also needed to learn and to invest in new things - the scenarios and the lights weren’t “for free” anymore. I can’t enumerate how many workshops I followed in this period, but I can say that even though we are now in the second half of 2023, I still follow 1 or 2 workshops every year.

I can proudly say that after 6 years I know a lot of photography, but I can’t express how much I still learn from workshops and how much my work does profit from the new techniques. This is how I can provide that “wow effect” once my clients open my photos. You will never know enough about exposure, setting, edition, There’s always someone that will know a little bit more, or maybe have a different or easier way to teach you. Knowledge is not only power, but it is also never too much!

My tip for you is to find a favourite photographer. That one that you are absolutely mesmerised by their photos and work - and book a workshop with this person! Absorb the way that they work so you can inspire your own work with these new techniques and in this way you can create your own style. By doing this I am sure you will have guaranteed success! Create your wow effect - your clients will come for your work, your style, your technique, your colours - but wow, they will come for you! ❤️

Veronika Marques is a photographer that did inspire my own style in the last years, since I followed SEVERAL workshops from her and at the end of the month she will be here in The Netherlands teaching THE INFINITE MATERNITY MASTERCLASS.

This is a BIG SHOUT OUT TO all Dutchies (and European photographer’s that wouldn’t mind stepping in a car to learn loads of wonderful things): this is an unmissable unique opportunity to live and breathe the class of one of the most renowned photographer’s I know.

If you are still reading, I have in here some information about this intense day.
